Project Title:
Pixelated Mountain Bridge
Year of Completion:
Spring 2022
Typology:
Infrastructure and Recreation
This project was designed for my final architecture studio class and was introduced as part of an international studio contest for the Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism. The contest called for the design of a bridge and/or building that would stretch over the Han River. Our studio class focused on designing a green bridge and recreation center that stretched from the city over into the Seoul Forest.
The concept of this project involved the merging of the city of Seoul, South Korea with the adjacent Baekdudaegan Mountain Range. The city is represented by the pixelated grid that breaks down the site into understandable sizes, which is then introduced as squares of various sizes that shape the plan of the bridge. The mountains are represented by the form of the bridge which blend seamlessly into the surrounding mountains when viewed from the bridge. Many paths are created through the overlapping squares and spaces are formed for dedicated and user-defined recreation. The recreation center sits within the bridge and serves as a gathering space for the community.
